In this course you will learns the basics of Chinese healing which include fundamental analysis, TCM organ systems, individual herbs & herbal remedies. Chinese Herbology is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which also includes the practice of acupuncture and massage. Chinese herbal medicine is unique in that the assessments are based on the theories of ancient Taoist sages who passed this knowledge down to the people. It was first used and developed further by those in the agricultural community. Chinese herbal medicine has its history of over 2000 years with a herbal materia medica published in 200 BC titled Shen Nong Pen T’sao. The modern Chinese Materia Medica is comprised of hundreds of herbs and descriptions. There are literally hundreds of well-known decoctions and remedies used with these herbal combinations. Chinese herbs are well known to be successful in correcting imbalances of inharmonious conditions of the body, mind and spirit.
Introduction to Chinese Herbology will also cover TCM anatomy, meridian theory and acupoints. Other TCM theories and practices covered will be therapeutic diet and exercise (Chi Kung) as well as the importance of emotional and spiritual healing as a means of assisting in recovery from chronic illness. Complete with over 50 pages of handouts, review questions, assignments, Chi Kung meditation CD and a final exam. Students obtain a copy of "Between Heaven and Earth" by Beinfied/Korngold.
