Ginger Moxa
This form of Ginger Moxa was developed by the family of Dr. Lam Kong. His family has been doing this now for 10 generations. It is unique to his family’s teachings.
This treatment is wonderful on any trauma (old or new), sprain, bruise, broken bone, back pain, carpal tunnel, arthritis, menstrual pain, abdominal pain, etc. In Chinese medicine, pain can be from a blockage of Qi. This treatment moves blocked Qi. it also reduces inflammation and swelling, stops bleeding, and invigorates the flow of blood and oxygen to the area to promote healing.

A a nice big fat piece of ginger is used. A "Jumbo" or "Triple" sized cotton ball is teased to find the loose edge and is unrolled. Ginger moxa oil is smeared as a thin coat on the cotton ball. The cotton ball re-rolled, with the oil inside, and then smeared with a little extra of the oil on the sides of the cotton ball. Usually several cotton balls are prepared before starting the treatment.

One side of the ginger is toasted by putting it directly on the burner of a hot plate turned up to high or directly on a gas stove. The flame is put just under the bottom of the ginger. A frying pan or a candle are sometimes used. The ginger is toasted until it feels warm through the top side.

Then the oil wrapped cotton ball is attached to the burned or charred side of the warmed ginger slice with a sponge clamp, a type of forceps. The forceps are firmly attached at the base along the side of the cotton ball, making sure there is no way for it to accidentally come loose during the treatment.

The ginger slice with the cotton ball on it, is upside down. The cotton ball is now lit on fire, rotated to burning evenly. It is very important for the the cotton ball to be burning well before the treatment.
A dab of the Ginger Moxa Oil is on the area to be worked on. Then the warm ginger, with the cotton ball facing up and still burning, is rubbing the oily paste into the affected area with it. Using firm pressure, a figure eight or circular motions is used. More of the ginger moxa oil is used as needed.
